The university is located in the city and near my house. This will lower my cost of being in the institution (Kydd 34). Besides the location, the university offers the best academic and consultations services that help the student to choose the right classes that ensure that they succeed in the medical school. Therefore, I am looking forward towards joining the alumni of this renowned institution who are known for their remarkable contribution towards making the society a better place to live in.

The sociological traditions of Marx and Durkheim view religion totally differently, yet they both agree that religion is a very important aspect of a society. Durkheim and Marx each had their own definitions of religion. However, we will learn that they both see an important role that religion plays in a society, as well as the ways in which society creates and shapes their religions. Unlike Durkheim and Weber, Marx was not much concerned with the studying religion although his ideas on religion are very influential. For marx religion He further feels that a world that requires illusion (religion) has something wrong with it. Marx talks about two primary functions of religion in what he calls the â€Å"real world†. First he says that religion is the opium of the people. Marx feels religion provides anesthesia to the masses. To him, religion is a way for people to escape from some of the suffering in their lives or to somehow feel better despite all of their suffering. Religion deters suffering of the present situations of people. It allows people to put off their suffering because they believe it will be taken care of in heaven, or where ever, after they die. And as it would follow, religion helps people put more hope into â€Å"the year after†. People who are religious really do believe â€Å"life† will be better for them after they die. Also religion helps to maintain the oppression of the lower classed people by the people who make up the upper classes. The second primary function of religion in a society, according to Karl Marx, is that it is the sigh of the oppressed creature. Religion brings with it a safety value. People end up being lulled into the protection religion seems to offer them, and people do feel the need to feel and be safe. Religion also gives people an opportunity to complain about the ways of the world. The world is not the way religion says it should be and therefore people complain about the way it actually is, as a way of feeling like a good member of their chosen religion. Religion allows people to acknowledge the dehumanized state of their lives. It helps people to see the horrible way in which we are in and it helps keep us in this horrible way. We realize through religion that we are not finding fulfillment in our lives. Marx would view a relationship between religious belief and progressive social activism as a display of a dehumanized society yearning for self actualization. The people of a progressive social activist society are not getting self actualization because there political system allows for scarcity of necessities, goods and jobs, and they also oppress the people of their society. According to Marx, if people are without self actualization they will create a place where they can find self actualization. Religion helps people do that. Durkheim dedicated a considerable part of his academic life to the study of religion especially religion in small scale traditional societies. Allotting a single sentence to Durkheim in a kind of appendix to The Sacred The Profane, Eliade comments that the French founder of sociology believed that he had found the sociological explanation for religion in totemism. Durkheim bases his work on the totemism practiced by Australian aborigines and argues that totemism is the most elementary or simple form of religion. Durkheim starts Forms by looking at how religion may be defined and here the sacred profane dichotomy comes immediately into play: the primary characteristic of religion is that it divides the world into the two domains of sacred and profane. In fact, the two are opposed so fundamentally that they are seen as separate worlds. In Durkheims view the sacred is far from being synonymous with the divine. Not only may gods and spirits be sacred, but also things like rocks, trees, pieces of wood, in fact anything. For what makes something sacred is not that it is somehow connected to the divine but that it is the subject of a prohibition that sets it radically apart from something else, which is itself thereby made profane. Durkheim describes religion in terms of beliefs and rites. For him, the details of these in particular religions are particular ways of dealing in thought and action with the fundamental dichotomy of sacred and profane.

Organic Food: Types and Benefits What do you mean by organic? (Why is organic important for both moms and kids?) Introduction: In today’s adultered world, nothing is pure. Everything has some adulteration and it is all done to increase the quantity and make more money. Thereby it also reduces the quality of the food and the things that we consume. Everything has now been grown in the inorganic way. Ether with more medicines or artificially grown with some scientific processes. These processes take away the essential vitamins from the food, leaving it hollow with very less or no nutrients in it. The health is lost and the wealth is made. This is what is followed in the present generation. Health is not considered and not valued. The adulteration and the artificial world: Over the past few years, there has been a great demand for organic food. Though, it is quite costlier when compared to the other one, it is always preferred by the ones who are health conscious. The food industry has grown to some extent with this demand of the organic food and the products. People are demanding more of organic food. The inorganic ones damage the food and takes away the energy from and also pollute the environment. The health of the one who consumes it also gets affected. There are more number of diseases today than there were decades back. There are more people in the hospital than in the wedding receptions. The doctors are making more money than the engineers could make throughout the year. It is all because the food that we eat is not organic, and it is not pure at all. It is filled with pesticides and grown up in artificial climatic condition with fertilizers. It causes more damage to the health and the environment. Organic food- healthiest: Therefore, recently it is considered that the organic food is healthy, strong, and nutritious. It is preferred over the local and the inorganic ones. There is not much research done on this. And the few researches which were done for comparing the organic and the inorganic food show that the organic foods are always healthier and nutritious. They are always in better quality, though not in quantity. There are many researches that are going on in order to prove the same. But a final conclusion is yet to be out. More importantly, these foods should not be given to the kids and toddlers. Since they have a fast developing body, they need more nutrients vitamins and minerals. Even if they eat very little, they should try to consume nutritious food. Children might not know much about the differences between these two. They would always prefer junk over the healthy and the nutritious food. It is because the junk always looks attractive and therefore grabs attention with its bright colored food. They have preservatives in them, they also have chemicals that make you get addicted to such foods. Therefore, it is important to keep the children away from such food. The more they are away from such junk food; the more they will live a healthy life. Children might become fussy over this issue, but try to handle the situation wisely and make them understand that it is not healthy and good for the growth of their body and mind. Organic food is important for adults too, especially for moms: Including the children, it is also better for the mothers to stay away from these junk. The inorganic food will only make you feel full. You will keep gaining weight and you will have an unhealthy lifestyle. In order to take care of your child, you need to be strong and healthy first. Remember kids imitate very well. So, whatever you eat, they will also adopt the same. When you are into junk food, chances are more that the child will also follow your footstep and will prefer eating junk food over the healthier ones. Organic food and the natural cultivation processes: The processes food that you get in the market are packed in bright colored papers and wrappers. They attract people with their advertisements and make false statements that they are healthy and are packed with nutrients and energy. But it is not true. The packed ready-made foods are high in sugar, sodium and also saturated fats. They have very low nutrients and minerals. Therefore, they are the main reason behind the many serious health issues. Weight gain is also one such problem that you get when you consume more of junk food. Other various health problems include diabetes, heart diseases, and high blood pressure. As already mentioned above, these junk and the ready-made instant food have many artificial preservatives that are bad for health. The flavor enhancers are also added and also a number of chemicals are also included in the ingredients while preparing the food. These ingredients cause a very bad effect on the body and cause serious health problems either immediately after consuming or later in life. Organic food – without any artificiality: The inorganic foods are always grown with a number of fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, and also many growth hormones are also added to the food grown. The organic foods are grown in natural climatic condition and in the natural environment without any fertilizers and pesticides. Natural farming of the crop is adopted while making the organic food. The result of this is that, there is no side effect either to the environment and nor to the people who consume it. Rather, people who consume organic food are way healthier and live a longer life with an increased life span. So, if you wish to live a life of crow, or the elephants, the start eating organic food. Set up your own farm. You can make it in your own kitchen yard. You can start with some small plants and later can expand with the need. You will gradually change your body system and will become healthier and happier. As they say, healthy life is a happy life. You can stay away from the genetically modified food and can also shed the flabs by not consuming them. You will eventually look physically modified, with no flabs and heavy hips and people would start thinking that it is artificially doneà ¯Ã‚ Ã…  . You can anyway tell them later that it is all the effect of the natural food that you consume. Advantage of consuming the organic food: This is for both moms and kids. The moms need more energy in order to run behind the children and keeping self on the toes. The kids need more energy in order to keep running in front of the mom and keep her on her toes. Therefore, it is equally important for moms and also the kids to eat healthy and nutritious food. They would complement each other in life by keeping each other healthy and strong. The organic food is grown and cultivated with all the natural methods such as the crop rotation, plantation, composition, stimulating bio diversity etc. It is all done by the farmers and no machinery is being used for the process of cultivation. There are no pesticides, insecticides, fertilizers, etc. in the crops that are grown. Artificial coloring agent, taste enhancers, artificial preservatives are all not used in this. They are healthy, nutritious and are packed with vitamins and minerals. They increase the health and thereby increase the life span. The children are healthier and stronger when they consume the organic food. There is no risk of any health issues in life now and after. The immune system is built with this and the resistance power is also increased. Absence of all the artificial agents makes the organic food healthier, stronger and safer. The environment is also protected without any pollution. Thus, there are many more reasons that can be listed out here in order to show how important and how safe it is to consume the organic food over the inorganic ones. It is still not late. It is better to late than to never. You can start right away and right now. Give up all the bad habits of eating junk. Your child will follow the same. Start eating healthy food. Go to the market and buy only organic food. It is ok if you had to spend some extra bucks. But your health and your baby’s health are more important. It makes no sense when you spend less on eating and spend more on treating. You will eventually end up spending all the savings at the hospital. Therefore, understand this and make people around you also understand it. Make your baby eat only organic food. You can also use the help of the internet to boost yourself and to know more about the organic food. You can try various recipes that are given on the internet, especially for the toddlers. Your child will definitely l ove it. In fact, not only the child, but you will also love it. Last but not the least, everyone should follow the quote that, â€Å"Healthy living is a happy living†.

Anselm’s Philosophy Anselm's definition of AGod starts by saying that God is the greatest being we can possibly think of. When Anselm states this, it essentially means that it is not possible to think of a being greater than God. Anselm also states that if God is the greatest thinkable being, he is referring to the fact that it would be impossible to imagine or to create in ones mind someone or something being better than God. Therefore, it would be impossible to say that God only exists in ones mind because it is much greater to exist in reality than it is to exist only in ones mind. Anselm then suggests that God has many attributes which describe him. Among these being: self-existent, a necessary being, omnipotent, omniscient, completely just and timelessly eternal. After reading the Proslogion by Anselm, it gave me a greater understanding of these attributes listed above. Although, they are all of equal importance, I feel the most prominent of God's attributes is the fact that he is self existent. In essence, that means that God depends on nothing else for his existence, he is uncaused. Therefore, his existence is timelessly-eternal. This means that God cannot stop existing. On the other hand, contingent beings (such as ourselves) depend on something else for their existence. One example of this is, that as a child we utterly depended on our parents for food, clothing, and shelter. Contingent beings therefore can begin to be or cease to be at anytime. They can, unlike God, be here today and gone tomorrow. Anselm uses the definition of God (the ontological argument), in which I have described above, to prove God's existence. As I mentioned, Anselm believes that God is the greatest being we can possibly think of. He does this by first trying to prove the opposite of what he really wants to prove. For example, lets suppose God does not exist in reality. We then could think of something greater, a being that has all the same virtuous characteristics as we think God as having, but also being able to exist in reality. He then tries to prove that this supposition leads to a conclusion which cannot possibly be true. Then the original God would not actually be the greatest thinkable being, this new something else, that actually exists would be. This new God which actually exists would then be able to be seen, heard and touched by the individuals... ...that I have with Anselm's philosophy is that he believes that if you can imagine something existing then it defiantly does exist. In the book Anselm's critics state Athat someone who does not know the meaning of the word, who thinks only of the impression made on his mind by hearing the word and tries to imagine its meaning. (Anselm P. 395) There is no way to use a word such as God as a being or an existence because I believe that everyone has a different definition. I can understand the words Agreatest possible being but understanding this does not necessarily mean that such a being exists. For example, I understand the words Aflying car, but we all know that there are no flying cars. But Anselm argues that AI have the concept of this being in my mind, therefore this being exists. (Anselm p.395) I believe that this is where Anselm takes a giant leap of faith. In conclusion to whether Anselm's definition of God gives actual proof of God's existence, I believe that the only way to believe that God actually exists is by having true faith in him. Norms of Christian Theology

1. The sources and norms of Christian Theology I understand scripture, tradition, reason and experience as the sources and norms of Christian theology. Revealing the knowledge of God, guides us to know God, and inform our action and practice as believers, they are the sources as witnesses that points to the knowledge of God. At that same time, they are norms by which we can judge our understanding of God and correct our behaviors as children of God 2. Understanding of the source and norms Scripture is the witness of God’s revelation through Jesus Christ.This is crucial source not only to form academic study within Christianity, but to use in public worship, meditate the word of God, and transform Christians’ life and the world. There is New Testament and Old Testament. For a long time, putting the center as the point of Jesus Christ, church tradition considered that Old Testament point forward and New Testament point back to Jesus Christ. However, we need to understand that both of them are not only the account to testify of God saving action throughout history, but also the expectation of Christians’ hope confirmed by God.In terms of the Old Testament, it is important, first of all, because it reveals the essential characters of God who reveals in Christ: through the story of Israel, we can see God who is faithful, promised to his people, delivered them from bondage, and keep promising hope. Secondly, Old Testament also anticipates the same future with which New Testament anticipates. That is hope confirmed by God. The New Testament is important in that it tells Christ in different ways. It is not only story looking back, but that looking forward in which Christ will come again and God’s unfulfilled promise will be fulfilled.Tradition is the proclamation of the word of God in which believers in communities of faith understood, taught, preached, meditated, and shared the world of God at different ages with various ways. There are thr ee views of relevance of tradition. The first is magisterial view in which tradition as DUAL SOURCE has the same authority with scripture. In this view, scripture is the written form of apostolic witness of Jesus Christ, personal revelation and tradition is the oral form which is communicated hand out by apostles and witnesses generation to generation.The example is devotion to Mary, the central role of Bishop or Room. With Magisterial authority it has been very successful at maintaining the visible unity in church. However, it was challenged by Protestants to give the authority to only scripture. The second is diaconal (service) view in which tradition as ONE SOURCE subordinate to and measured by scripture. In this view, like Nicaea creed and Apostle Creed, does not communicate with the true of scripture, but hear in scripture and summarize it with new and fresh language.On balance, diaconal view seems to be best able to honor the past and the evangelical impulse to measure everyth ing against Scripture. However, it still gives us question where the tradition communicate in which the scripture silence? In this vein, Martin Luther who denies dual source view also did not agree with single source view. It is because that traditions treated with respect and values where the scripture silence and did not contradict scripture. The third view is diabolical in which tradition is dangerous and misleading.Insisting that only authority encountering revelation is through the word of God, Free Church and Baptist part of radical reformation have non creedal tradition. As a distinguish character of human beings, reason is a tool of thought that we use to understand. It question Christians if Christian faith is self-consist and it consist with other things we believe. There are three approaches to understand the relationship of reason to the knowledge of God. The first is that reason is no role to understand the knowledge of God.It is not necessary to be Christian faith self -consist. As a human instrument, there is no value at all in reason dealing with divine. Without reason, we simply believe. The second is that reason completely adequate to understand the world and God. According to this view, reason tells us everything reliable, and the fact that we can know about God is the fruit of reason. Enlightenment, Deism, Thomas Jefferson approached reason into a magisterial level. In this view, reason helps us to have consistency with the others we believe when they are reasonable.However, if there is conflict between reason and faith because faith is something beyond reason, this view couldn’t provide consistency. The third view is that reason is wonderful gift from God, relevant to things of the world, things of God. However, it is not sufficient for understanding things of the world and God. In this view, faith and reason is not a relationship of contradictory, but two wings of a bird, where reason provides first, faith provides second. Faith is root and reason is stem. Reason by itself is fully inadequate, but helps deepen our understanding of Scripture, tradition and ourselves.Experience is to experience God in personal life. It is not usually listed the source and norm of theology with other three (ex, Episcopal Church), but it is very typical in Methodist. Because it played very roles in different theology, it is interesting source and norm. McGrath suggests two models of experience. The first is that experience provides a foundational resource of Christian theology. It means that 1st hand encounter is the surest from of knowledge and self-explanatory; other things become more intelligible because of that experience.Second, theology is a framework to interpret human experience. In this view, experience is not capable of interpreting by itself, but interpreted by theology. For example, Wesley emphasized experiential dimension of Christian life and experiential faith. He thought his great experience reversed as tied up as a sense of joy and assurance in which the gospel became true for him. Lots of liberation theologian also interpreted their experience as hardship, injustice and oppression in light of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ.However, here is question, if experience becomes a identify mark and determined whether or not disciple, what happens feel more, less, or dried up? In addition, one’s experience can be revised and transformed. In that sense, Karl Barth said that experience is relevant, so not equally easy to receive the gospel. 3. Difficulty to understand scripture, tradition, reason and experience as norms and sources of theology As I mentioned in the beginning, scripture, tradition, reason and experience are the sources and norms of theology.As sources, they sustain Christians’ life so that their understanding and knowledge become nourish to know God. At the same time, by using them as norms, we can measure other testimonies. One of difficulty is that we easi ly want to make them norms; we are not accepting them as sources. We need to receive them as sources which inform our action and practice in Christ. 4. Relation with the personal word of God, Jesus Christ. In Barth’ three folds of the word of God, the center is the personal word of God, Jesus Christ. The second circle is apostolic witnesses about Jesus Christ.Then the third is proclamation in which literal word of God proclaims today through various ways and activities. Reflecting these four sources on the three folds of the word of God, scripture is witness of the personal word of God, Jesus Christ. Tradition is in between scripture and proclamation. It is because that tradition is witnesses of the personal word of God as well as proclamation of the word of God today. Finally, reason and experience have dimension of all three dimensions; scripture, tradition, and proclamations.

USS Antietam (CV-36) in the Korean War

USS Antietam (CV-36) in the Korean War Entering service in 1945, USS Antietam (CV-36) was one of over twenty Essex-class aircraft carriers built for the US Navy during World War II (1939-1945). Though arriving in the Pacific too late to see combat, the carrier would see extensive action during the Korean War (1950-1953). In the years after the conflict, Antietam became the first American carrier to receive an angled flight deck and later spent five years training pilots in the waters off Pensacola, FL.   Ã‚   A New Design Conceived in the 1920s and early 1930s, the US Navys  Lexington- and  Yorktown-class aircraft carriers were intended to meet the limitations laid out by the  Washington Naval Treaty. This placed restrictions on the tonnage of various types of vessels as well as installed a ceiling on each signatory’s overall tonnage. This system was further extended by the 1930 London Naval Treaty. As the global situation began to deteriorate, Japan and Italy departed the treaty structure in 1936. With the collapse of this system, the US Navy commenced efforts to design a new, larger class of aircraft carrier and one which utilized the lessons learned from the  Yorktown-class. The resulting product was longer and wider as well as utilized a deck-edge elevator system. This had been employed earlier on  USS  Wasp  (CV-7). In addition to embarking a larger air group, the new class carried a greatly enhanced anti-aircraft armament. Construction began on the lead ship,  USS  Essex  (CV-9), on April 28, 1941. Becoming the Standard With the US entry into  World War II after the  attack on Pearl Harbor, the  Essex-class soon became the US Navys standard design for fleet carriers. The initial four ships after  Essex  followed the types original design. In early 1943, the US Navy ordered multiple alterations to improve future vessels. The most visible of these changes was the lengthening the bow to a clipper design which permitted the addition of two quadruple 40 mm mounts. Other alterations included moving the combat information center below the armored deck, enhanced ventilation and aviation fuel systems, a second catapult on the flight deck, and an additional fire control director. Colloquially known as the long-hull  Essex-class or  Ticonderoga-class by some, the US Navy made no distinction between these and the earlier  Essex-class ships. Construction The first ship to move forward with the revised  Essex-class design was USS  Hancock  (CV-14) which was later re-named Ticonderoga. It was followed by additional carriers including USS Antietam (CV-36).   Laid down on March 15, 1943, construction on Antietam commenced at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Named for the Civil War Battle of Antietam, the new carrier entered the water on August 20, 1944 with Eleanor Tydings, wife of Maryland Senator Millard Tydings, serving as sponsor. Construction rapidly advanced and Antietam entered commission on January 28, 1945, with Captain  James R. Steaming along the East Coast and in the Caribbean until April, the carrier then returned to Philadelphia for an overhaul. Leaving on May 19, Antietam began its voyage to the Pacific to join in the campaign against Japan. Stopping briefly in San Diego, it then turned west for Pearl Harbor.   Reaching Hawaiian waters, Antietam spent the better part of the next two months conducting training in the area. On August 12, the carrier left port bound for Eniwetok Atoll which had been captured the previous year.   Three days later, word arrived of the cessation of hostilities and Japans impending surrender.    Occupation Arriving at Eniwetok on August 19, Antietam sailed with USS Cabot (CVL-28) three days later to support the occupation of Japan. Following a brief stop at Guam for repairs, the carrier received new orders directing it to patrol along the Chinese coast in the vicinity of Shanghai. Largely operating in the Yellow Sea, Antietam remained in the Far East for most the next three years. During this time, its aircraft patrolled over Korea, Manchuria, and northern China as well as conducted reconnaissance of operations during the Chinese Civil War. In early 1949, Antietam completed its deployment and steamed for the United States.   Arriving at Alameda, CA, it was decommissioned on June 21, 1949 and placed in reserve. Korean War Antietams inactivity proved short as the carrier was re-commissioned on January 17, 1951 due to the outbreak of the Korean War. Conducting shakedown and training along the California coast, the carrier made a voyage to and from Pearl Harbor before departing for the Far East on September 8. Joining Task Force 77 later that fall, Antietams aircraft began mounting attacks in support of United Nations forces.   Typical operations included interdiction of railroad and highway targets, providing combat air patrols, reconnaissance, and anti-submarine patrols. Making four cruises during its deployment, the carrier generally would resupply at Yokosuka. Completing its final cruise on March 21, 1952, Antietams air group flew nearly 6,000 sorties during its time off the Korean Coast. Earning two battle stars for its efforts, the carrier returned to the United States where it was briefly placed in reserve.   Ã‚   A Groundbreaking Change Ordered to the New York Naval Shipyard that summer, Antietam entered dry dock that September for a major alteration. This saw the addition of a sponson on the port side which permitted the installation of an angled flight deck. The first carrier to possess a true angled flight deck, this new feature permitted aircraft that missed landings to take off again without hitting aircraft further forward on the flight deck. It also greatly increased the efficiency of the launch and recovery cycle.   Re-designated an attack carrier (CVA-36) in October, Antietam rejoined the fleet in December. Operating from Quonset Point, RI, the carrier was a platform for numerous tests involving the angled flight deck.   These included operations and testing with pilots from the Royal Navy. The result from the testing on Antietam confirmed thoughts on the superiority of the angled flight deck and it would become a standard feature of carriers moving forward. The addition of an angled flight deck became a key element of the SCB-125 upgrade given to many Essex-class carriers during the mid/late-1950s.   Later Service Re-designated an anti-submarine carrier in August 1953, Antietam continued to serve in the Atlantic. Ordered to join the US Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean in January 1955, it cruised in those waters until early that spring. Returning to the Atlantic, Antietam made a goodwill voyage to Europe in October 1956 and took part in NATO exercises.   During this time the carrier ran aground off Brest, France but was refloated without damage. While abroad, it was ordered to the Mediterranean during the Suez Crisis and aided in the evacuation of Americans from Alexandria, Egypt. Moving west, Antietam then conducted anti-submarine training exercises with the Italian Navy. Returning to Rhode Island,  the carrier resumed peacetime training operations. On April 21, 1957, Antietam received an assignment to serve as a training carrier for new naval aviators at Naval Air Station Pensacola.    Training Carrier Home ported at Mayport, FL as its draft was too deep to enter Pensacola harbor, Antietam spent the next five years educating young pilots. In addition, the carrier served as a test platform for a variety of new equipment, such as the Bell automatic landing system, as well as embarked US Naval Academy midshipmen each summer for training cruises. In 1959, following dredging at Pensacola, the carrier shifted its home port.   In 1961, Antietam twice provided humanitarian relief in the wakes of Hurricanes Carla and Hattie.   For the latter, the carrier transported medical supplies and personnel to the British Honduras (Belize) to provide aid after the hurricane devastated the region. On October 23, 1962, Antietam was relieved as Pensacolas training ship by USS Lexington (CV-16). Steaming to Philadelphia, the carrier was placed in reserve and decommissioned on May 8, 1963. In reserve for eleven years, Antietam was sold for scrap on February 28, 1974.
